There are few places in America—or the world—quite like New Orleans.
Our food is more than something we eat. It is our history, our neighborhoods, our families and our culture. From red beans and rice on Monday to gumbo, jambalaya, po'boys, crawfish, beignets and the neighborhood restaurants that generations of New Orleanians have grown up around, food is woven into who we are.
And yet, in a city with one of the richest food cultures in the world, too many of our children and neighbors still wonder whether tomorrow will include a meal.
Food insecurity in a city defined by food can boggle the mind, but it is a reality our community faces every day.
NOFRC exists because we believe useful food should feed people, not landfills—and because New Orleans has always been strongest when New Orleanians take care of one another.
Every pound of food rescued matters.
Every refrigerator stocked matters.
Every meal shared matters.
Every business that donates matters.
Every organization that opens its doors matters.
And every hour volunteered matters.
With every volunteer and every parcel of food rescued, we move a little closer to the New Orleans we all deserve—from young to old, from Jefferson Parish to Orleans Parish.
We are neighbors.
We are a community.
We are New Orleans.
Who Dat!
